Level 5 Childcare Qualifications & Funding
There is currently no funding pathway (neither apprenticeship, student loan, or other) for a level 5 qualification in Childcare, meaning there is also no path for colleagues to gain the entry level required for their level 6 degree.
The pathway we used to have, the Level 5 Leadership in a Childcare Setting, has been given over wholly to Health and Social Care, effectively stopping the opportunity for colleagues in the sector to progress to graduate status.
Given the current and past government are wanting a graduate led workforce in Childcare, this makes no sense at all.
I have been lobbying to get this issue resolved and we are effectively now at the stage that funding “should be forthcoming" if we can demonstrate demand.
To this end, please can you spread this questionnaire widely? It will give the sector the data it needs to hopefully get this funding issue resolved quickly.
I get the impression it was not a conscious decision to remove funding, but rather an unforeseen consequence of giving the pathway number to Health and Social Care (a pathway number previously shared) and leaving Childcare in no man’s land.
The questions will only take a couple of minutes and simply seek to determine if you are actively looking to do your level 5 (or of you are a Childcare company, how many of your colleges would be).
